Digital save the dates for Kiwi weddings

Pick a design and your names, date and town are already on it. Send it by email tonight, no waiting on NZ Post, and guests can pop the date in their calendar straight from the card.

Do you need to send save the dates in NZ?

If anyone's flying in, or you're marrying over summer or a long weekend, yes. A save the date gives people the date before the invite, so they can book flights and somewhere to stay before prices climb. For a small local wedding with a short engagement, plenty of couples skip it.

A digital save the date costs nothing on Starter, with three designs to start from. Guests open it in an envelope on screen and can add the date to their calendar. Paid plans from $65 NZD, paid once, open up more designs and graphics and let you move anything on the card.

Three steps

Done before the kettle's cold

  1. Choose a card

Start from a design; your names, date and town come across from your wedding details.

  2. Change whatever you like

Rewrite the lines, pick the typeface and colours, and choose the paper and envelope.

  3. Send it, or print it

Email each household its own copy, or save a PNG or PDF for the printer.

The nice touches

It arrives in an envelope

Guests see a sealed envelope with their name on it, then the card slides out on screen.

A calendar button

One tap puts your date in their phone or laptop calendar, which beats a card that wanders off the fridge.

See who's opened it

From Essentials, your Sent emails page shows who has opened theirs, so you know who to chase.

Your own artwork

Designed one yourself? On Signature, upload it and send it with every household's personal link.

Questions

Things people ask us

How early should save the dates go out?

Six to eight months ahead for a mostly local crowd, and nine to twelve if guests are flying in or it's a long weekend.

What's the difference between a save the date and an invite?

A save the date is just the date and place, so people keep it free. The invite comes later with the times, the venue details and the RSVP.

Can we post a few as well?

Yes. Save the card as a PDF, print a handful and post them to the people who'd love one on the fridge.

Can I upload my own design?

Yes, on Signature. Upload a PNG or JPG and it goes out with each household's link.

Can whānau overseas open it?

Yes, on any phone or computer, anywhere. There's nothing to download.

Can guests save the date to their phone?

Yes. The card has a button that adds it to their calendar.

Does it cost anything to send?

Not on Starter, for up to 50 guests by email. Sending by WhatsApp from your phone comes with Signature, and texts with Luxe.

Who should get a save the date?

Only people you're sure you'll invite. Once someone has one, the invite needs to follow, so keep the list tight if numbers are still moving.
